In your example DR 5/magic does indeed mean that a magic weapon of any type will bypass it. It is possible to have multiple types of DR, some of which include bashing, piercing, and/or slashing.The spell it uses is Neutralize Poison (Cleric 4) which can prevent worsening Damage but not heal it.
