I assume the regen you are referring to is either the active regen or the passive regen. The passive regen happens automatically when under heavy load. The active regen, is activated by you. It dumps fuel into the system, making it a little better than the passive regen. The regen button doesnt do anything unless the computer is requesting a parked regen. The button is there to allow you time to park the truck in safe spot before you run it. Newer trucks generally dont have it. But you won't be able to force it to regen without a scan tool unless the truck is requesting it.
