The best location for your purposes is the Historic District, where you will be walking distance to historic sites and restaurants and can easily return to your hotel if needed. The Historic District is mainly residential, so very quiet.

Traffic should not be bad going to the beach from the Historic District. Bad traffic going out to Folly tends to be over stated. Especially for April it shouldn't be an issue.

Their parking lot is a favorite for locals, it's a better place than most shopping centers for leaving a car for hours. You can't walk anywhere from there but that's also true of most of the motels in Mt Pleasant.
