The first world record in the women's long jump was recognised by the Fédération Sportive Féminine Internationale (FSFI) in 1922. The FSFI was absorbed by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 1936.. Record progression. As of June 2009, the IAAF (and the FSFI before it) have ratified 36 world records in the event.
In 2016, 44,123 women were registered by the Federation – double that of 2012. There’s still a long way to go, and plenty still to be done, such as strengthening the leagues and seeing more female directors and top-flight coaches. But the leap already taken has put Spanish women firmly on the sporting map.
