If it has "standard" rifling, then it is a Douglas. If it has "Micro Groove" (as mine does) then it is a Marlin barrel. Marlin has gone back and forth as far as where they stamp the serial number starting out on the lower tang and switching to the upper tang just about the time your rifle was made.

A true Marlin will have (JM) on the left side of the barrel close to the reciever and the serial number will be located behind the hammer on the tang. SOME end-of-production real marlins will have a (JM) stamped barrel on a remington reciever (the ones with the serial number on the left sider of the reciever) and have good wood.
