With Riftmaker you have a bad early and mid and a bad-decent lategame. It's a fun build that works when you're better than your elo, but not on serious competition i think. No pro ever builds or even tries Riftmaker also. I've seen some pros go Crown, seraphs, Rylais. Should be a decent build against assasins.

In my opinion, this iteration's low winrate is because of the difficult execution. Ryze used to be a durable battlemage with short range. They've taken out the durability and replaced it with extra damage. However, the kit is structured as though defensive tools were present. With the lower experience, Ryze is delaying this damage increase for ~3 minutes if memory serves. This is a huge negative compared to the solo lanes. His E-W-Q combo is pretty much always guaranteed to hit and causes massive damage during early-mid game. He scales a bit poorly, for some reason he doesn't do much damage during late game, and is quite squishy.

However, the other whole history of Ryze was a simbol of late game ap dps. Unlike Cassiopea and Azir, the other ap dps mages, Ryze does not have to worry about aiming. The whole proof for this is his W, rune prison.

Even with the tank builds, you still get bursted. Zed pops, Akali peels, and battle mages that scales with HP still gets the best of him. AH and Mana items for mages is so scarce right now.
