Jan 5, 2024 · Jan 28, 2024. #24. I lived in Iowa for over 20 years fresh out of college. Every year I waited for those 'roadside counts' to come out. They can paint a picture but only part of it. I killed a lot of birds in areas that the 'counts' pretty much proclaimed the ringneck to be extinct. That was fine with me.

I do not wear a coat because they are too restricting for me when shooting. When its really cold I wear underarmor tight constriction base layer, then a polar fleece base layer, then an orange hoodie, then an orange poofy vest (OLD Remington brand), then my upland strap vest over that.

They sure lost a lot of CRP in that area. Still was standing wheat pheasants weren't very visible. I talked to a few locals in Froid and Culbertson and Plentywood. All remarked about the horrible Winter and loss of Pheasants.

Just kidding, but I have been waiting a long time for this now I need to wait a bit longer as more get to the used market or inventory increases.Pick one, steel or bismuth, and use an appropriate load weight & shot size. For long range roosters (45-50 yds plus), assuming appropriate pattern density is achieved, my opinion is that a person should use AT LEAST: 7/8 oz lead 5's at 1200 fps. 1 oz bismuth 4's at 1200 fps. 1-1/8 oz steel 2's at 1400 fps. Jan 30, 2024 · Just reread the ND brood counts, total pheasants counted were up 61%, and # of broods counted were up 70%. Released 9/11/23. They acknowledged that conditions were optimal for the roadside counts, but overall data corroborated the higher #’s. Obviously, some areas much better than others…true in all states. Birds just aren't going to continue going back to the same cover they are getting hunted in frequently if the weather does not force them to do so. 2) A lot more birds were shot early on.
