After M-block production ended in 1982, Ford re-engineered the M-block flywheel to accommodate both engines with one part. The current M-block flywheel service part (E5TZ-6375-H) has holes drilled and tapped for both 351M and 400 pressure plates. When the 351M was introduced in 1975, it used the same flexplate as the 400.It also has larger main journals than the 1M or 2M crankshafts. A forged-steel crankshaft was never available from the factory for the 351W. Like the 302 crank, the 351W went to a one-piece seal in 1985, just like the 302, eliminating the lip and leaky two-piece seal. The snout needs machined for timing chain alignment,Just to get started. The problem with using a 400 crank in a 351w is that you have to cut the counter weights down to fit the block. They are a nightmare to balance when this is done because they require heavy metal added.
