I have done runs with pistols and not had scavs treat me any different from other players. you need atleast 1 extra mag with pistol runs. if you dont have extra mags you will be tagged and cursed. and ofc you have to have ammo in the mags. 1. I have experienced tagged and cursed on a raid where I was fully geared. No clue what was the trigger in this case and probably a bug. If you put gear on, it breaks the tag.
