my gf just got to level 50 on her amara a day or so ago and has been running melee since the beginning. when i watch her play she can generally 1-2 hit regular enemies. badasses and even anointed melt pretty quick too. elemental might be more powerful, but melee is not lacking in the slightest. except against flying enemies... edit: this is also with suboptimal gear. no roid shield or ...

Amara doesn't need DLC items. Pick up a spiritual driver/phasezerker class mod. Any grenade with 50% elemental annoint (different from shield) -whatever gun you prefer.
