I like the look and features of the nova, but the mossbergs I hear can really take a beating. I also like that the mossberg guns come with ported barrels.

To me, it just feels better than the Nova. I came across it used and the price was right and it just felt more solid. I do believe that the 'basic' foundation of the gun and that of the Ithaca 37 were from JMB's design.

The Benelli is a GREAT gun, and cost me about what I paid for both the Mossy's combined. If your budget is small, go with the Mossy's, they'll do the job reliably.A) The number of accessory barrel options you can easily get for it. B) It looks better. That said I'm actually looking to get the new Mossberg 535 ATS Turkey/Waterfowl Combo, it's lighter than the 870 or 500 if you plan to carry it around the field all day, and can handle 3 1/2 inch shells if you wanted to use them.The 870 is one of those guns everyone tends to shoot well. Its Express, Wingmaster, and Fieldmaster variants are some of the best-patterning pump shotguns of all-time.
