A standard auto body technique is "plug welding" with a MIG where holes through the outer sheet are filled with the inner sheet as a backer simulating a spot weld. In this application I would think a TIG would be the better option to control heat on the trunion. We've lost MP5 and G3/HK91 receivers because not changing the recoil springs. The receiver will start to bulge where the bolt carrier bottoms out at the stock. It is a factory HK-91. I checked the receiver. it is still straight and true. Pin holds are not worn or elongated. I noticed the problem this last time I went out with it. I put about 100 rounds of surplus Australian 7.62x51 through it (out of an unopened tan plastic battlepack from the early 2000's) cycled everything normally.
