You have to wait for the alliance to expire. I think they last 10 turns. They expire in X amount of turn. To be honest though, there's no need to wait if you are really close to victory. It's longer than 10 turns, must have been close to 30 now. I wish there was a way to see how much longer they have to go.

Alliances don't really mean shit in civ 6. If you want someone to help you in a defensive war you need a defence pact prior to the DoW. It's stupid especially when you want to defend a weaker ally but have to take the warmonger penalty of declaring the war. Alliances are "just" non-aggressive pacts. What you want is a defensive pact.

After all, I think the alliance system need to be enhanced if this being the final version.Such level of bonus is certainly a joke compared with benefits from warmongers. Even "chance to wipe out a civ" worth much more than the alliance bonus. Update: From today's Scotland livestream it seems that alliance got further nerved.

Put simply: You and a civ you have declared friendship with sign a Research Agreement. It costs you both a fixed value of gold (eg. 250). This value goes up over time. When the agreement concludes (30 turns), both parties gain the last 8 turns of their own science output in one go. Let's say your empire is producing 250 Science per turn. Actually all alliances include mutual defensive pacts - if someone DOWs your allies you'll be called into the war automatically. The exception is if you are also allied with the original civ who declared the war to start with; check Brazil's alliances, they may be tied to both you and the civ who DOWed you. 4.
