Own both. Recommend both. My EDC is 740 w/extended mag 8+1. Also own 709's and Mil Pro PT111 and PT140 MIL G2. I don't CC the Mil Pro or G2's as not enough rounds thru to be happy with performance - the PT111 MP was repaired and returned by Taurus under extended warranty and PT140 G2's were replacements under recall.

I still like the 709, but it has a little more kick than the PT111, and as you already noted, the G2 has a larger capacity. The recoil on the 709 is certainly manageable, but my personal preference is the PT111. I shoot it better, and it conceals very well with my IWB leather holster that I got from The Holster Store.
