I transferred all my data from my original xbox 360 (the white, 1st edition) and couldn't wait to play with the new 500 GB. So after im playing a game for 20 minutes... the sound cut out for 2 seconds. It returned to normal and then about 10 minutes later it did it again. It turned out that it was iTunes for Windows causing it. I switched from Spotify to Apple Music last year so I started using iTunes for Windows. Then I resubbed for EndWalker, and experienced sound cut-outs. At the same time, I found that iTunes was pure garbage, so I stopped using it and started using YouTube Music on Windows.

I had this issue a couple of days ago and played through 70% of Stormblood without realizing I was missing voices, right click your sound system in the bottom right, go to playback devices, click your default device, configure, and change the audio channel. Make sure all audio selected in windows is the correct item and you can even go into the audio sounds in windows to make sure the default playback and recording are the right line items.
