Broken cranks seem to be a very rare problem for Duramax's. People would need to have some fairly sophisticated equipment on a running engine to track how harmonics from the camshaft would eventually result in damage to the crank.Not sure about Duramax, but BBC should have forward thrust load applied to the crank flange (say 100 lbs) with 1/2 thrust load (say 50 lbs) applied rearward to the main thrust cap prior to and during initial tightening of the main thrust cap fasteners. The thrust loads used during assembly are arbitrary and do not need to simulate running loads.Nov 28, 2014 · I've got 3 LB7/LLY broken cranks here. Not sure if it makes a difference which crank you have, I did go with a used LLY crank that was mag tested in my LMM though. It's still uck of the draw. Theres HUNDREDS of broken DURAMAX cranks from guys running aftermarket balancers on engine with cirtually no run time. LML's seem to pop around the 150-200K mile mark, others are a gamble. As to harmonics, these same harmonics are present in engines running ATI balancers, it's just a natural harmonic in the engine.

After two years without the Mistress I have started building a new power plant for her. Starting with a new LML block beefed up with SoCal billet caps and a girdle from the Dmax Store. The main journals of the new block will hold a Calies DuraStar crankshaft and Carrillo rods.
