In essence, the battery cable overheats, and acts like a kink in a garden hose - the car just doesn't have the proper current/voltage it needs to run.

Its kind of a easy fix. Just goto your local hardware store, buy some window screen, and small size zip ties. Cut screen to the size of the opening of the grille. Feed screen down in front of radiator, attach it to the top mount support using the zip ties. Attach the bottom to something under the car as well.Hmm, it very well could be the linkage needs adjusting. I did have the exact same symptoms you had, and swapping manual transmission fluid made the shifting issue disappear. It didn't help with the noise, though. Mine still makes some unpleasant noises on the 1-2 shift most of the shifts.
